Lonestar

Marilyn, Colleen and I made this Lonestar quilt for a friend.

The pattern is Jellied Lone Star from Moda Bake shop, except that Colleen added the pieced border and an extra border on top and bottom to make it rectangular instead of square.  I really liked the effect of the pieced border.  I was also very glad that Marilyn and Colleen did all the piecing ;)

 I used Sue Heinz's sashing in the round for the medallions.

Bento Box

This quilt is one I pieced and quilted, as a recognition gift for the youth minister at Symons Valley United Church who is moving on with his life.   

 

I pulled all the fabrics from our stash, most of them were bought at the Red Deer Quilt show in 2014, some came from MQX West in 2011.  They had aged long enough :)

 

 The backing I bought at Rumpled Quilt Skins (I just love their name) in Okotoks.

Yellow Brick Road

I'm not entirely sure if this quilt is Crystals or Noreens, but I think it is Noreens.

I love the batiks that these ladies choose to use in their quilts.  

A Cozy Plaid Flannel

Crystal made this quilt as well.  It is soooo soft and cozy.  Makes me want to make a flannel quilt.

 

I quilted it with a dwirling/landscape design.  Perfect for a man's quilt!

The back is flannel too.  Crystal has found a source for wide flannel, and they're so lovely to quilt up.

I'm not going to show the picture, because I'm not sure this quilt has been gifted yet, but Crystal, in addition to being a working mother of three, and now a quilter, is also a photographer, and she printed a photo onto fabric and stitched it onto the backing before bringing me the quilt, so I had to be a little careful with my loading the backing to make sure the photo was in a good place, but it worked out really nicely and a great way to personalize the quilt.  

Charm Pack Star quilt

This quilt is one of Noreens.  It's made with a charm pack and some yardage, and I really liked it. 

Noreen found this lovely flannel to back it with.  

 All it needed from me was some E's and 3's texture

Owls

 Crystal pieced this quilt for her Grandma who loves owls.  I don't often quilt with a pantograph, but sometimes the quilt tells me what it wants, and these owls needed a forest floor to hunt in, so I used the pantograph Forest Floor for this one. 

 It added a really nice leafy texture. 

 Crystal sent me a photo of her and her Grandma together with the quilt.  It was very nice, but it's not my photo, so I won't share it here, you'll just have to imagine it :)  .

A Wedding Quilt--Snail Trails

Kerri made this quilt for her nephew (and new niece)'s wedding.

Because I was doing some custom designing on this quilt, I have a few 'before' photos to aid in the design process.

 

I wanted to emphasize the rounds (or trails ) of the snails around the center, and Kerri had asked me to make sure that the blocks that extend into the border stand out, because the fabric values wound up being similar and they weren't distinct.

So I set out to add some texture to the border

 

and some different textures to each 'round' of snail trails

 and I got to put my new thread scraper to use...it pulls out all the little thread bits left behind when ripping stitches.

the center medallion got some special treatment as well, to highlight the medallion aspect

 the very center block got the initials of the newly married couple in the center...this photo isn't good, but there's a shot of the back that you can see better coming up

What a marvelous wedding gift!

Congratulations A&M

a flower garden

Jayne is a relatively new quilter, but I sure couldn't tell quilting this one.  It was square a flat, despite being all triangles.   We decided on a flower meander, since there were flowers in many of the batiks.  I love this turquoise in the border too, it's one of my favourites.

Dinosaurs

H made this quilt for her grandson, using Highway 10 Design's Quarter Section pattern.  It's a great FQ friendly pattern.

I quilted this quilt with flames and pools of lava with a orange Magnifico thread that was a lot of fun with the black light

 a nice minkee backing.  If the grandson wasn't the flames/lava type kid, I thought the quilting could be grass and water for the dinosaurs.

June and July are very busy family months, with year end for school and activities, and summer vacation for the kids.   I've kept up with reading other people blogs, but have not been writing any posts of my own.

Last week, I was blessed with a few days alone, as kids were off at camp or Grandpa's and DH was away for work.  It was bliss.  I quilted 2 quilts of my own, bound one of them, and finished piecing my 100 Modern Blocks Tula Pink quilt by adding the sashings and the borders, so now that's in my TBQ (to be quilted) pile (need to buy backing), and that has officially finished off my WIP (works in progress) list.  Yep, that's right, I have zero WIP's.  I DO have two quilts in the TBQ pile.    I also have several projects for which I bought fabric in June at Quilt Canada, so I"ll be ready for some piecing time at retreat this fall.

This week, I've picked up the kid at camp, and we've also come to Grandpa's to enjoy some time on the farm and with family, so I'm hoping I'll have a chance to catch up on some blogging.  I see I've got quilts from as long ago as May I haven't shown yet.
