Batik Sampler

Noreen sent me this Batik Block of the Month sampler to quilt.

 I freehand quilted it with the always elegant filigree. 

Simplicty II

This quilt is also one of mine.  I had a quilt to make on a time frame (where delivery to recipient was easy and convenient).  I had a jelly roll, and a border fabric that suited both the jelly roll and the recipient perfectly.  I was searching through my patterns, couldn't put my hands on the Cosy Quilts Simplicity pattern, but wanted to look up layouts, so went online and came across this variation on the pattern.  Simplicity II

I did add two more strips to get 42 blocks so I could do a 6 x 7 layout.   No point in having extra blocks left over!

 I love the movement in this quilt pattern. 

 The recipient of this quilt is a truck driver and a mechanic, so this border fabric (which I have been hoarding  saving for some time) was perfect. 

 I had a lovely charcoal grey minkee backing, and quilted a meander, to represent all the roads driven. 

Kaffe Medallion

This quilt Linda made is all borders around a central rectangle.   I think all the fabrics are Kaffe.

 I had the overhead lights on for photos above so the colors showed truer--this photo below I turned the lights off so the quilting could be seen--E's and 3's provided a nice, even texture.  Hobbs 80/20 provided nice loft, and is easy to wash and care for, as this quilt is intended for a young person. 

Tranquil

This is Bobbie's quilt, which was a kit she bought from, I think, Keepsake Quilting.  I don't know what it was called, but to me it is Tranquil, so that is what I have called it here.  It is a quilt for her granddaughter.

 To me, the fabrics are so peaceful and elegant, I wanted to choose something really elegant and flowing as a quilting design.  So I stitched this open filigree design. 

 The backing is a wonderfully soft flannel.  I used Glide Pearl on top and pale gold Magnifico in the bobbin. 

Atomic Starburst

This is my Atomic Starburst, which is a Violet Craft pattern.    I have worked on a Violet Craft pattern 3 retreats in a row--I think I'll have to find a new one for this October.

I had been gifted a layer cake, and was looking for a great quilt to use it in, and luckily at about the same time Violet Craft published this pattern.

 The paper pieced starbursts took a long time, but the rest of the quilt just snapped together. 

 and I had LOTS of fun with the quilting.  I took some inspiration from PhillipaG quilts on how she quilted an Atomic Starburst.  And from some Angela Walters books. 

 A lovely cuddle backing shows the quilting really well.

Tillie's Treasures

This wondrously scrappy quilt belongs to Colleen, and the blocks were made by herself and several people in her guild.  The quilt is remarkably flat and square for one made by so many hands. 

 I love how many secondary designs can be seen--chains and crosses and stars.

 a floral edge to edge design added simple texture, which is all this quilt needed.

 I love the little pops of unexpected color here and there. 

Purple

Purple really is just the best description of this quilt.    I am in love with how visually striking this simple scrap quilt is.  This quilt started with the remains from the 20 FQ used in Monkey Business.   I saw a similar layout with the half square triangles on line somewhere, and then went to EQ7 to design a quilt with the best use of my scraps.    I later went back to the original inspiration photo, and it is more of a blocks and sashing design, but  I'm very pleased with this.  I like it better.

 I see two shapes in this quilt--the diamond above, and the star below.   Those 16 patches were just asking for continuous curves, so I did a light custom quilting job on this quilt.  

I even used three threads--a white, a purple and a teal (in the borders for a special bonus for those looking closely)  I've included a photo of the border, but I cannot tell from the photo

and a lovely cuddle fabric on the back, which shows the quilting so well, you can still pick out the diamond shape,

Triangles

 Katherine made this baby sized quilt with many different variations of a triangle.  I just loved looking at this as I quilted it, looking at all the variations. 

Etno Bay

When I finished Soulful Windows, I could then do something with the remaining fabrics from the kit I had purchased at Quilting From the Heart  

Because I had strip tube pieced the half square triangles in the original pattern, mostly this meant just cutting more HST from the already pieced strip tube remainders.   Really, it took me more time to play on my design floor and figure out the layout.      The only fabric I had to add was binding and backing.

I named this quilt Etno bay, because the fabric line is Etno by Pat Bravo, and I looked up synonyms for Soulful (nothing that struck me) and for Windows and Bay was the option I liked best--so I put them together. 

 I did a light custom quilting on this--continuous curves, with a few curls thrown in.  A soft grey minkee backing shows off the quilting nicely.  

This is a baby sized quilt, and will wait until I have the right recipient.

Columns

Heather made this columns quilt, with columns of 1" squares, alternating with two different fussy cut fabric columns--one of which features--yes, columns!!

Quilting these 1" squares made me happy.  I love continuous curve quilting

 Some large ribbon candy in the columns to either side of the 1" squares. 

And a curling vine in the Columns columns. 

This quilt is an example of light custom quilting in my studio.  No rulers (I can SID horizontal and vertical without rulers with my Innova), no thread changes, continuous path quilting.
