Pink Hourglass Quilt

This is Kathleen's Pink Hourglass Quilt.  This is what she had to say about it:
I made this quilt a really long time ago and it’s been hanging in my closet waiting to be quilted.  My inspiration - in fact I copied straight off her blog - was this quilt by Jacquie Gering. I had the fabric and was trying to think what I would like to make with it.  Then I saw Jacquie’s quilt made with the same fabric and quickly sent off an email asking permission to copy it.  Because it was for me and not for sale, Jacquie had no problem with my making it for personal use.  The other thing that I liked about it is the straight line quilting. It was one of the first quilts I saw that had straight line quilting. I think the fabric was by a designer named Jackie Shapiro.  (modern Grace line?)

 I thought this was great--I've been wanting to try this style of quilting for a while now, but hadn't found the right quilt. 

 For some interest, I used 3 colors of thread--pink, green and white.  I mixed the thread color up throughout the quilt.

 I love the texture that this quilt has.  I'm so glad Kathleen let me play with it. 

Kathleen enjoys pieced backs, so they're always interesting too.  

Popsicle Sticks

 This is Noreen's Popsicle Sticks.    I love the colors in this quilt.  All this quilt needed was texture, so a landscape dwirling is what it got.

This sidelit photo while it was on the frame is great.

Quilt of Valour- stack n whack

This is the second QoV I was able to quilt this year.    Is it Christmas?  or Floral? 

 It's fruit! 

 
and the backing isn't pink at all--that's my camera.  It's the lovely red that looks like a bed skirt in the first photo.

Gravity Pillows

While Vicki was making her Gravity quilt, she was also carefully using the scraps to make pillows.  I think it may have been a suggestion with the pattern.  This is Vicki's photo of the pillows. 

 She sent me one big backing, which is a fabulous idea when you're doing small pieces like this, because it saves me loading time, which saves you money.

 I love how she managed the tints/shades of the fabrics so the lightest colors are on the lightest backgrounds.  Also, each pillow (and I knew exactly how I was going to quilt the centers from the moment she mentioned them to me) has a block of red triangles that can be read as a hexagon.  So, I turned those into a tumbling block.

 And, of course, the back is almost as rewarding as the front, but no-one will ever see the backs now that they are pillows.

Quarter Sections

 Alice and I made these 3 baby quilts, using Highway 10 Designs Quarter Sections pattern.   6 FQ (with no waste) makes a nice size baby quilt.

 We had a lot of grey days last month--these colors are not showing true--that's a bright orange not brown.    This one got a lovely flannel backing.

 For this quilt I took the leaf shape in the fabrics as my quilting inspiration.  I concentrated most of the pink fabrics into this one quilt.

 and the backing has mermaids!

This quilt got bubbles and loops.  

And also has the mermaids on the back.    A nice blue binding finished them off nicely, and they are ready to go to the charity my guild supports.

Cheryl brought in this very nice little Star Wars quilt, that she made for her son.

 I thought this flat meander might look like space....or in places I see the shape of the Millenium Falcon :)

Simplicity #8

I quilted this Simplicity way back at the beginning of 2016, but realized I've never shown it here.

 I had a lot of fun quilting this one. 

 You'd never guess that this was the piecers first top, would you?  I'm sure she's been a sewer for many years though. 

 This quilt is a great example of getting a custom quilting, but still within reasonable budget and very minimal stitching in the ditch (only between the borders and the body of the quilt. 

 It looks so different when I stand 'on-point' (diagonal) and take a photo. 

 And the back gives me as much joy as the front

New Zealand quilts

Nancy made 2 quilts from fabric she brought back from a vacation to New Zealand--one for her and one for her husband.  They'll be cosy watching hockey on TV this winter!

The first one I quilted with hook curls, which I think look like Maori Greenstone fishhooks, so I figured that was pretty appropriate for a NZ quilt.

This is the only photo I took of that quilt, so you'll just have to imagine an entire quilt quilted as above.

For the second quilt, I asked Nancy if she wanted the same quilting design or something different, and if different could I go with a more modern design.  She said yes to both.

 This design is from Christina Cameli's book---I've used several designs from that book --but not yet the cover design, which is what had convinced me to buy the book.  Still waiting for the right quilt, I guess.
