Rail Fence

This rail fence quilt belongs to a(n unnamed because I'm not sure it's been gifted yet) client who made this for her granddaughter.

I remembered to take a before shot this time, well, kind of, it was as I was loading the quilt

 And the quilting is some fancy line dancing.  I wanted to emphasize the square blocks.

 I really like how the quilt looks woven in the photo below.  I see that more in the finished product that in the unquilted photo, but that might just be my eyes. 

 And the backing was fireside fleece, so cozy, and it shows the quilting nicely.

 One of the things I really like about line dancing is the secondary pattern that forms, the photo above I see the square blocks, but the photo below, I see the spinning shape formed by the intersection of the blocks.

Disappearing 9 patch table runner

I've been doing the books for the church all day, so needed some 'quilt' time to compensate.   This is  quilt made by the church ladies for a staff member at church, so I guess I'm still on topic.


My goal for 2013 had been 50 quilts, and this sweet table runner was #50.  Nancy's Rail Fence was 51, but I haven't finished my Kim Brunner quilt yet, so maybe I'll only count 50.5 for 2013.

 The quilting is a little hard to see...just some line dancing in the large squares and continuous-curve in the small squares.  The rectangles were small enough to leave alone.

 This is a simple and effective quilt block...looks so different in different layouts...square dance and different fabric choices

I feel better now, thanks for indulging me in some quilty pictures.  Now, back to budgets!  And once those books are all done, I'll finish up that WIP!

Square Dance

This is a disappearing 9-patch pattern, from a magazine--this pattern uses 1/2 of a jelly roll (2 1/2" strips). 

This quilt belongs will be a wall hanging in the office of the church.  It was fun, because in addition to using some jelly roll strips, we used scraps from the comfort quilts we make for people in the congregation, and from the Stoles made for the ministers last year.  There were many hands involved in making this quilt.

And I guess it was fun, as many of the quilters went on to make their own.  Some of the ladies made theirs entirely from scraps.  I enjoy seeing the same quilt in different fabrics...here's another Disappearing 9 patch if you want to see a comparison.

Gold Magnifico thread, wool batting.  Line dancing for the quilting.  It will be bound in the same dark navy as the tiny cornerstone squares.

And this time I had a picture of the quilt 'pre-quilting'.  It's a neat comparison.  So often I wish afterwards that I had one,  but by then its too late ;)
