Katherine had these two sampler quilts at home, that she made long ago and decided to finish this year. She asked for edge to edge feathers on each quilt.
I decided I'd prefer to freehand the feathers, rather than use a pantograph design. The scale of the one feather panto I have was wrong, and also, I almost always prefer to freehand. I enjoy quilting samplers, they are interesting.
The quilting definition shows better on this second quilt--I think it's the difference between the wool batting and a cotton batting for the first quilt. The second backing shows better as well.
those are light splotches on the photo--there's no issue with the backing.
