The Butterfly Quilt

 Marilyn made this gorgeous version of  Tula Pinks The Butterfly Quilt

 These two peacocks got a little bit of custom treatment, and the rest of the quilt was stitched in an edge to edge E's and 3's.  

 Marilyn reported that she had a lot of fun making this quilt.  It was her winter project.

 It was certainly fun to quilt, seeing all the little blocks she had made, and the fabric choices.

 I think the E's and 3's represent the breeze, or the Butterfly's path as it wings about. 

100 Modern Quilt Blocks 2

 This is Vicki's 100 Modern Quilt Blocks, pattern by Tula Pink.  Vicki did it as a block of the month with Along Came Quilting, but in a different session than my 100 Modern Quilt Blocks, which made it lots of fun to quilt, because some blocks were identical to mine, some had one or two of the same fabrics, and some had entirely new to me fabrics. 

 Vicki wanted an edge to edge design, and while I did consider a few pantographs I thought would look great on this quilt, I wanted to look at all the blocks, so  I chose this freehand open swirl from Kathleen Quilts book Diary of a Young Swirl

 I think the fabric Vicki used for her sashing and borders is a stonehenge.  It worked beautifully for this project. 

Dream Weaver

This is Kathleen's Dream Weaver quilt, which is from Quilts from the House of Tula Pink, and uses Tula Pink fabric, front and back.

 My instructions from Kathleen for this quilt were "have fun".  And, so, you guessed it, I DID!! 

 I pulled out my Jodi Robinson and Angela Walters books for some inspiration, and had fun.  Ultimately I put 12 different designs in the colored blocks, and 4 different designs in the white sashings.

 this quilt has such fun textures all across it. 

and a little photo manipulation gives us the 4 sashings side by side

and the backing was a Tula Pink 108" fabric.   The textures are so fun back there too.

100 Modern Quilt Blocks - Tula Pink

I finished this quilt in November, just slightly late for youngest's birthday.  And, then got busy with life and forgot to blog it. 

If you're a regular reader of my blog, you would have seen the blocks as I pieced them.  I joined a block of the month at Along Came Quilting and they sent me the fabric for 10 blocks each month.  It was a great way to do this quilt, as I don't have a large stash, and wouldn't have had any sort of fabric variety on my own.

 I used the layout on the cover of the book.  Youngest likes rainbows, and I wanted to use all of the blocks.  We chose a pale teal shot cotton for the sashing and border fabrics. 

Prepare for a lot of photos :)

I had the book, with closeups of Angela Walters amazing quilting, however, once I started quilting, I tried really hard not to refer to the book unless I was completely stumped, because I didn't want my quilting to be a copy of Angela Walters.  It is definitely inspired by her, I've taken a lot of classes, both in person and on Craftsy, taugtht by Angela, and if any block is identical to her quilting, it is happy coincidence. 

I used a wide variety of threads

I've photographed the blocks 4 at a time, but it's still a lot of photos.

Batting is QD wool.  Backing is a wide-flannel.   Quilt is 90x90.

It was fun, as youngest would come along and pick out her favorite blocks as I quilted.  (turned out it was most of them).

 I was really pleased with how well the quilting shows on the back too.  Lovely texture.
