Yikes!

Ruth brought me this Yikes! Quilt to quilt for her Son-in-Law.   I took inspiration from the fabric with the wavy lines and decided to use the Time Warp pantograph.  That fabric is the gold fabric on the lower right in the photo above.  

I love the texture and movement this panto gives a quilt. 

CanCan Girls

 Margot brought me this quilt as well.  The fabrics are Kaffe Fassett.  It's quite different from the scrappy BoM she brought at the same time.  This is what is so fun about quilting for others--the wide variety of quilts and fabrics I get to play with. 

 All this quilt with it's bright and busy fabrics needed was texture, so we used the Time Warp Panto.  I have loved the texture of this panto from the first time I saw it on a shop sample at a local quilting store. 

Star Quilts

 Katherine made these two star quilts.  I had so much fun quilting them, the fabric choices were so wonderful.  This first quilt got a plumage pantograph, lovely large feathers

I love having Katherine as a client---she wanted to use this Liberty fabric as backing,  it was large enough for the top, but not large enough for loading--so she added some extenders to the backing.  

The second star quilt was done in soft brushed cottons (I think, they had a lovely feel to them whatever they were). 

 

Katherine presses her seams open, so there was no issue with bulk in the center of the star.

 This quilt got a freehand square meander pattern. 

Time Warp

I have been loving the texture of this Time Warp pantograph (or similar ones) for years, and finally bought it for myself.  I rarely use a pantograph, but the TEXTURE on this one!! 

I use a panto so rarely, in fact, that I've owned this one for at least 6 months before using it.    It seemed the perfect fit for this batik quilt of Noreens.   She used navy as the dark, which was the perfect choice for this blue loving quilter! 

 I didn't take enough photos of the fabrics in this quilt...I loved that they looked very much like the old batiks that my Mom used to make, not in terms of color, but in terms of seeing wax crackles

Move Over 2

 This is Colleen's Move Over quilt.    It got the Modern Maze#2 pantograph on it.  It's an intricate panto, perfect on this quilt. 

 

 It's funny (to me, because I don't know much about photography) how minkee photographs.  This is a lovely charcoal minkee on the back. 

Heather's Sampler - Baptist Fan

 This is Heather T's sampler.  Lots of hand applique and hand piecing in this quilt, but for how Heather wants to use it, an edge to edge design seemed like the best choice, and Baptist Fan is always a classic.

 Even some Broderie Perse techniques on this quilt. 

 As she so often does, Heather has used a beautiful border print.

Lisa's quilt

 I realized as I was starting to write this post that I've thought of this as a Bear's Paw quilt--but it isn't.  So now I don't know what to call it.  Other than a lovely quilt made by Lisa for her own use. 

 She said it went together really quickly, which is sometimes such a treat after working on an intricate or detailed quilt.   The paisley fabrics are beautiful.

 Lisa picked out the flamingo sunset panto by Anne Bright. 

Southwestern Quilt

Aren't the colors and shapes in this quilt great?   Vicki made this for her son's 18th birthday/graduation. 

Here's a partially quilted shot to see the difference quilting makes.  

 I was saving sharing this quilt until after it had been gifted in late August--and then I guess I saved it a few more months. 

I don't often quilt out a pantograph, but Square Spiral seemed appropriate for this quilt.  I like how it adds both lines and curves, and is also very geometric, as is the quilt pattern.

 If I recall correctly, it's a grey thread, it's sure showing brightly in this photo below, but the backing is true black--it's so hard to photograph minkee properly.

Modified Irish Chain

Charlotte made this quilt as a gift for her parents.  She used lots of greens, and added some tartan to represent the family heritage in Prince Edward Island.

We decided to use the square spiral panto for this bed quilt.  It's square-ish, but also adds nice rounded lines.

The coloring of this quilt changes so much in different lights-well, that's probably just my camera reacting to the different light.

Charlotte reported that her parents are thrilled with their quilt, as well they should be!   I hope my kids are making me quilts when they're grown.

Scraps of Life

This is the 'before' picture of Heather T's Scraps of Life quilt.  When I googled that quilt name, this is what came up https://www.amazon.ca/Scraps-Life-Helen-Ogden-Widener/dp/0615265359


I think it's called Scraps of Life, because for most people, it would take a lifetime to piece.  If I counted correctly, each block has 181 pieces in it.  The squares in this quilt finish at 1".

Heather wanted to keep the quilting traditional looking, and we knew that the piecing had to shine, and that not much would show against the piecing,  so we chose the Plumage panto to add a feather texture to this quilt.  No point in paying for custom quilting that won't show. 

 As expected, the quilting doesn't show much, so the panto was a great option.

 Have a look at the directional fabric in the block below--the wavy lines are all marching in the same direction. 

I didn't expect much to show on this busy backing, but the quilting texture actually showed better on the back.

181  1" pieces per block...20 blocks....every point was pointy, my jaw is still on the floor
