Paper Chain Block of the Month

and how I got started on doing the Summer Sampler's (2019 can be seen here)

The blocks were, I believe, all paper pieced, and with Vicki's background matching her setting units the blocks just float on the background, which is a fabulous effect.    I wanted to add a very regular texture so the quilting would fade back, but also so it could give a bit of interest to all the navy.  a lighter thread was used because darker just read as too dark across the piecing (which is what should be the focus of the quilt), and with the regularity of the pantograph, the lighter stitching just adds a bit of oomph to the background.  The pantograph I used is called Square Spiral.

Birch Point

This is one of my quilts--Birch Point by the Blanket Statement Company

She's a Canadian pattern designer, so most of her patterns have Canadian place names.  This quilt was a great weekend project.

I had been watching fabric pulls on social media Kendra was doing at  Piece Fabric co and really liking them, so I gave it a try.  It was fun to have Kendra select the fabrics as a mail order experience, I told her the pattern and a color palette (green, blue and tan)--she texted back with photos of selections and I think really I only changed one or two from her initial fabric pull.  I'll definitely try that again!
I don't often use pantos, but I thought Square Spiral would be great on this quilt--

how can you not have fun with a pattern like this??

I'll definitely make this pattern again.

Southwestern Quilt

Aren't the colors and shapes in this quilt great?   Vicki made this for her son's 18th birthday/graduation.

Here's a partially quilted shot to see the difference quilting makes.

I was saving sharing this quilt until after it had been gifted in late August--and then I guess I saved it a few more months.
I don't often quilt out a pantograph, but Square Spiral seemed appropriate for this quilt.  I like how it adds both lines and curves, and is also very geometric, as is the quilt pattern.

If I recall correctly, it's a grey thread, it's sure showing brightly in this photo below, but the backing is true black--it's so hard to photograph minkee properly.

Modified Irish Chain

Charlotte made this quilt as a gift for her parents.  She used lots of greens, and added some tartan to represent the family heritage in Prince Edward Island.

We decided to use the square spiral panto for this bed quilt.  It's square-ish, but also adds nice rounded lines.

The coloring of this quilt changes so much in different lights-well, that's probably just my camera reacting to the different light.

Charlotte reported that her parents are thrilled with their quilt, as well they should be!   I hope my kids are making me quilts when they're grown.

Black and White and Red Yellow Brick Road

Deborah made this Black, White and Red Yellow Brick Road for her daughter for Christmas, and I sure hope I'm safe showing it now :)

She chose a red Glide thread, which has some lovely sheen to it, and the Square Spiral pantograph, which adds such nice texture.

This first photo has yellowed the fabrics a bit, they weren't yellow at all, but I kept it as it does show the red thread.  A nice little pop of color without being too bold.

The quilt is so big it was hard to get a photo of the whole thing.
I hope your daughter loves it Deborah!

Athena's Puzzle

A before picture of 1/2 the quilt.

This quilt is Kerri's and when she gave it to me she said she wanted some geometric quilting.   So I did some sketching of different ideas, and used my plexiglass to audition a pantograph or two...
And this is the design Kerri chose--square spiral by Keryn Emmerson.

This is a big quilt--about 84x95.  It's perfectly pieced, all the seams were pressed open, and every block measured exactly what it's neighbour did.  Very easy to quilt a quilt like this.

The design added a lovely texture to the quilt, and there's just enough curve to the lines to soften the piecing,  but without detracting from it at all.

Warm and Natural 100% cotton batting.  It's going to have great crinkle texture when it's washed!

Yellow Brick Road: Square Spiral

This is a Yellow Brick Road for the church.  I used the Square Spiral pantograph.

I love the fabrics in this one, and the Square Spiral gives such nice texture.  Cotton batting, YLI thread.

and this is how much thread I had left :)

Deborah's Hopscotch

This is Deborah's second quilt.  The first quilt she quilted herself, and for her second quilt, her friend/quilting mentor recommended getting it longarm quilted, so she could experience both.

This quilt was square and flat, which isn't always an easy feat with pieced borders.  Very well done for a beginner.

Deborah chose the Square Spiral pantograph, and a turquoise thread.  I was pleased to have a chance to stitch out a new pantograph.  I've seen and liked this pantograph on other quilters photos, so it was nice to know I love it in person too :)

These fabrics are just so bright and cheery.  This quilt makes me smile.
