Slide Show- Cat-i-tude and Harry Potter

Sandy made these two quilts for her daughters.   She had the Cat-i-tude panel, and was wondering how to create a quilt for her daughter with it, when she saw my Alaskan Slide Show.    She decided it would be a great pattern for her panel, and ordered the pattern .  She changed the sizes a bit, to best use the panel.

 The colors in these fabrics are so rich, they are beautifully designed.  I think the pattern focus blocks are 7 1/2" finished, and Sandy's cats are 10" finished. 

 Sandy brought me 3 quilts-- I think she must have bought a whole bolt of wide width black fabric.   It's perfect on these quilts, and lets the quilting show, although I was teasing that she maybe needed to include a lint roller as part of the gift--that solid black attracts every bit of lint from miles around. 

 Sandy's other daughter is a huge Harry Potter fan, so she was thrilled to find these fabrics.  

 My daughter saw the swirls over Hermione's face as I was quilting and it reminded her of the movie scenes when the apparate.   Score 1 for the quilter!!

 Sandy had these two huge queen quilts, plus another one in my queue to bind, so I suggested Susie's Magic Binding to her--doesn't it look great?  She was able to bind this in less than a day. 

Cake Walk

mmm.....now I want cake.     This vibrant quilt is Noreen's, and I'm pretty sure the pattern is called Cake Walk. 

 To say something is a cake walk is to say that it is easy.  I think in the case of this pattern, it also refers to using 10" squares of fabric, or a "layer cake".

 I have also experienced a cake walk as a type of fundraiser (usually for the youth in our church), where you buy tickets to participate in a musical chairs variation, and win a cake at the end! 

Reel Time

 This is the second quilt Vicki has made with her stash of Reel Time fabrics.  I cannot find the first one on the blog, so maybe I never blogged it, since it was a gift and I delayed--maybe forever LOL. 

 anyway, the point being Vicki had these wonderful fabrics left from her making of the first quilt, and she made this quilt, which was a wonderful way to showcase these great fabrics.

 

I wanted to add movement and not compete with the fabrics, so I quilted echoed swirls with a soft grey thread, probably Omni silver.

 a black minkee backing, it's so hard to photograph nicely but it sure feels warm and cuddly.

I went looking for pictures of the first Reel Time quilt, and couldn't find any---maybe it was a quilt that got away unphotographed.  So, you'll just have to imagine another awesome quilt with these interesting fabrics.

Starlings

This is Heather's Starlings quilt, which is a pattern by Pretty By Hand
 It is always nice to see patterns by local designers.  Pretty By Hand does some fabric designing too, but these aren't her fabrics in this quilt.

 Heather asked for E2E quilting, something swoopy and curly to echo the movements of starlings, so I became determined to learn JoAnn's echoed swirl pattern.  I've tried it before, and it always just turns into regular swirls, but this time I watched the video and drew it out about 3 times, and then I was good to go.  The key, which I was missing before, lies in the echoing.

 Above is  a grouping where most of the starlings are going in the same direction.    Have you ever seen a Murmuration?  I've never seen it in person, but the videos are amazing.  If you click the link it will take you to an amazing video.  Or just google, and find your own videos, there are several out there.
