Katherine made this applique sampler. She said it started with 32 orphan blocks from another project, and the remainder inspired by Di Ford and A Wedding Sampler by Charlotte Gillingharm (circa 1840)
Katherine wanted edge to edge freehand feathers on this quilt. Some people are relucant to quilt over top of applique, but it's a good option, and if the thread blends well it looks good too.
The feathers show really nicely on the back. The small strip of white is Katherine's sewn in label piece
